Do the benefits of new water-based products outweigh the risks of traditional products that used to “cure”? Liberty recently investigated a science building that had 4 floors of water based duct mastic that because it did not dry resulted in mold growth.
With the advent of green products one major sea change has occurred. Products that one cured now dry. They dry because they are water based. This requires your project to consider new means and methods if you are to avoid these products from growing mold. Products now require ventilation to reach their final state. There is not a chemical action to cure it. The removal of solvent has reduced (or eliminated) the mildewcide aspect of products. Now, the product does not have long-term anti-mold properties.
